The interesting of reading the step of Malaysia movement that happened in Jiran Malaysia the last of April. The country that closes with Indonesia was hit by a wave of massive demonstrations by the of movement “Bersih 3.0”. Based on independent online media the latest Malaysia, 100,000 protestors took to the streets to articulate demands for reforming of the elections which will be held this coming June. The protestors more urgent democracy essential.
The Movement of “ Bersih 3.0” they blamed coalition National Front prime minister Najib Razak has led a The United Malays National Organization (UMNO) conducting several falsehood and set up election for victory National Front . Among accusation floated opposition group Bersih 3.0 is voters’ data is invalid and a lot of manipulation.
The movement of “Bersih 3.0” is a movement of continue from the movement of “Bersih 2.0” is done earlier in 2011 ago. At that time, the demonstration was conducted by opposition group is to attempt to draw the world’s attention to the main issues of governance reform in Malaysia. Namely, so that the election law that opposition parties could be damning, so that it can be open space to compete in a fair elections in 2012.
It is considered dangerous, The movement of “Bersih 2.0” at that time, it is also assess the situation world fever revolution in the middle east ( Arabic spring ) , it is broken by repressive acts apparatus Malaysia . Demonstration was dissolved forcibly and became repressive action the worst in Malaysia throughout its history as censure amnesty international.
Reform of movement to uphold democracy in Malaysia, by Samuel P. Huntington, through his work, entitled The Third Wave : Democratization in the Late Twentieth Century (1991), it was read as part of the third wave of democratization. It was described by the global trend after seeing these symptoms in more than 60 countries throughout Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Africa at the end of the 20th century.
According to Huntington theory, the appearing of this third wave is caused by several factors. First, from the political side, the happened of delegitimation of authoritarian regimes due to late process of democratization which was marked by the implementation of periodic elections are not held on a healthy diet.
The second, the impulse of contingency region. Going on the snowball effect of the success of democratization in other countries so there inspired the reformist movement to do similar in those countries which are still repressive system of democracy and in hegemony regime.
The third, the international world supporting. Democratization is global issue that happened world concern. And then there are lot of governments in some countries repressive act and democratization is considered as legitimating tool in getting victory, it effected reduction of right of another society. It is not wonder if the movement of “Bersih 3.0” got much supporting. It is held in forty one cities and fourteen countries.
The Euphoria of Democratization
The international support is very meaningful and should be utilized by the demonstrators. Further, a wave of euphoria in the democratization of the Middle East still continue happening. Because of the country’s authoritarian, repressive and cooptation of human right, it will become global unrest. So if the regime remains reluctant with the demands of the people, then ultimately detrimental to Malaysia’s position in the eyes of the world, both politically and economically. For a little over 53 years, Malaysia has been governed by the UMNO regime under which created an accumulation of anger on the part of the people of Malaysia.
In the hands of UMNO, Malaysia democracy is stuck in the dark space of the situation of quo. Democracy is interpreted unilaterally with public participation thus nullifying susceptible to practice due to the lack of transparency of the Corruption Collusion and Nepotism. In addition, the canalization and the silent of media as well as a ban on a demonstration is sign of taking authoritarianism in Malaysia still holds the reins.
In Indonesia, the new order apology that stability is the prerequisite of development and economic growth. The apology was also leveled by the regime power in Malaysia. As a former Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia Tun Musa Hitam, considered their democracy is democracy not the American democracy, and also is not Indonesia democracy. ”We practice democracy in our way” said Tun Musa.
As a good neighbor, and has experience through the process of transition democracy which is similar, of course we support the process of democratization in the country of Jiran. To relevant to what is being said by Tun Musa is also often asked for his opinion by Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak democracy in our way.
Now the desire path of democracy by the people of Malaysia is no longer the democratic status quo according to the interpretation of the ruler. But democracy that guarantee people’s rights, including the right to stand for election. As quoted from the official Face book” Bersih 3.0” that their purpose is simple to advocate for cleaning, free and fair electoral system.
The demands of group “Bersih 3.0” it is a progress. It was born from the consciousness of the people to obtain justice their political rights. The task of Government stay such aspirations in order to prevent the lawyers accumulated anger the people who could have been further movement revolution like Arab Spring. It is certainly very detrimental.
As neighboring countries, we do not want Malaysia to be Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Syria or Yemen. It’s turned into a bloody democracy, ask a lot of sacrificial anodes are lives. Because it would negatively affect for Indonesia which has strong relationships in a variety of fields such as economy, education and culture with Malaysia. further against the two groups that underwent a series of, Indonesia has a strong emotional connection.
Anwar Ibrahim from the opposition is political figures as well as figures of Islamic Indonesia Muslim relations development of bridge-Malaysia when it became a Deputy Prime Minister Mahatir Mohammad. While Najib Tun Abdul Razak who was the son of second Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak, in her body flows blood descendants of the Bugis in Indonesia, South Sulawesi. As Indonesian, country of neighboring and tied by many ties with Malaysia, we want the process of reform in Malaysia took place peacefully and dignified.
